New Haven Safe Routes for All | New Haven, CT

Project Status: Implementation Complete

Safe Routes for All is an active transportation master planning process adopted by the City of New Haven’s Transportation, Traffic & Parking Department in 2019. The initiative aims to identify issues and opportunities for infrastructure improvements to increase pedestrian safety throughout the City.

As part of the planning process, the City engaged the Community Alliance for Research and Engagement (CARE), Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center, and Street Plans to lead varios data collection and public engagement efforts prior to completing the master plan. Street Plans developed and led the implementation of six demonstration projects throughout various neighborhoods in New Haven in the late summer and early fall 2019. The different interventions ranged from curb extensions, to painted bus stops, all of which transformed intersections into safer places for all street users.
