New Haven Quick-Build Safety Project (SS4A)

Street Plans has been a partner to New Haven since 2017, and the recently launched Goffe Street Quick-Build project is a direct product of that longstanding collaboration. When we completed New Haven’s active transportation plan in 2022, the team made a deliberate push to ensure it qualified as a Safety Action Plan, knowing it would open the door to federal funding. Two successful grant applications and $11 million in funding later, that investment in planning is paying off!

With our partners at the Department of Traffic, Transportation, and Parking, Street Plans kicked off the first multi-phase project SS4a funded project, which is focused on approximately 0.6 miles of the Goffe Street corridor. Long identified as a priority for safety and active transportation improvements, the area of focus links schools, parks, and civic assets like churches and the historic New Haven Armory. The project will showcase lower-cost traffic-calming and pedestrian safety improvements in real time and be assessed via a robust evaluation plan.

Our initial workshop received some media coverage with New Haven Independent titled Safe-Streets “Quick Build”? Let’s Goffe About It. More to come on this exciting project!
