Street Plans recently wrapped up ActiveCT, a five-year program funded by the Center for Disease Control and managed by the Connecticut Department of Public Health and the Capitol Region Council of Governments (CRCOG). The goal of the statewide effort is to improve street safety, increase physical activity, and support complete street initiatives statewide.
In total, the ActiveCT program tallied more than 40 plans, “Quick-Build” street redesign projects, community workshops, and guides.
A couple of highlights from the fifth and final year include the completion of the Willimantic, CT Quick-Build Traffic-Calming Plan and the design and installation of the Arch Street corridor Quick-Build project in New Britain, CT. The latter delivered interim pedestrian safety improvements while also informing the design of a state-funded street reconstruction project set to break ground in 2025.
