PROJECT STATUS: ONGOING
The Park To Park 103 project is a community-driven project to redesign and create a permanent Open Street on W. 103rd Street in Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Since January 2021, the project has been focused on understanding the impacts of the Open Streets designation on the street, the pedestrian and vehicle movement on the Open Street, and the desire for permanent change through surveying and events. The project’s goal is to create a pedestrian priority street that connects Central Park to Riverside Park, including improving access between the Open Street and the Frederick Douglass Houses NYCHA development. Most recently, W 103rd Street from Riverside Drive to Amsterdam Avenue was designated a Street Improvement Project (SIP) by NYC DOT, which includes the installation of curb extensions,mid-block bumpouts, and a shared street surface treatment throughout the two-block project site.
