Street Plans, along with Torti Gallas + Partners and the District of Columbia Housing Authority (DCHA), kickstarted a creative placemaking effort earlier this month at two DCHA properties to identify and develop early action placemaking projects that support the larger Choice Neighborhood Initiative (CNI) underway at Lincoln Heights and Richardson Dwellings.
The resident engagement process commenced with two simultaneous workshops inclusive of tape art demos, afternoon snacks, and resident plant giveaways. As a community with strong safety concerns, residents used the workshop to share their physical design and programmatic priorities as CNI investments are made in the short-, mid-, and long-term.
The Street Plans team is actively developing recommendations that will inform early action investments in the public realm of both properties as they are redeveloped in the coming years.
